Even though it is close to the city Mount Sophia offers residents a taste of the county. Muneerah Bee will further discuss this issue.
Mount Sophia was originally Altura EC known as Seligi Hill or Bukit Seligi. It was Finding Out My Condo named after Stamford Raffle’s second wife whose name was Sophia Westwood Residences EC. In colonial times the hill was known as Flint’s Hall, named after Captain William Flint. He was the Master Attendant of Singapore and lived there along with his family back in 1823. Flint married Raffles’ sister named Mary Ann. They had a daughter and named her Mary Sophia. Both of the Sophias have the hill named after them.
Mount Sophia was also the home to Eu Tong Sen who was a businessman. He had a mansion in the areas named Eu Villa.

Westwood Residences EC

In the 1880s this hill was one of the earliest residential middle class districts in Singapore for Westwood Residences.
There were two other Spohias who are known on the hill. Sophia Blackmore is an Australian missionary who developed the Methodist Girls School. Sophia Cooke from England ran St. Margarete school here as well.
The Girls school moved locations in 1992. St. Margaret school for primary grades is still there.
The building that was home to the school was turned into an art galley and an theater for independent films and music.

Westwood Residences Koh Brothers

In 2013 the Urban Redevelopment Authority put these buildings up for sale for Westwood Residences. They were restored and adapted for community use within a residential neighborhood.
Some land was given to the Hoi Hup Realty services along with Sunway Developments and S C Wong Holdings. They were turned into 493 rental units with one to Tengah Plantation Close EC four bedrooms. These three buildings were also turned into a clubhouse for residents, a child care center, and restaurant.
Sophia Hill is located in district none which makes this ideal location very popular. There are residential homes and more being added. Sophia Residence, Parc Sophia, 8 on Mount Sophia, and new projects are still being put up. In the upcoming years residents can also expect to see LIV on Sophia and 1919 housing.
Even though it is on a hill Mount Sophia is easy to access into Westwood Residences. There is Orchard Road and Dhoby Ghaut MRT which are on the public transportation routes.
Dhoby Ghaut station has the North South Line running as well as the North East Line and Circle Line. This allows easy access to transportation to residents. The Bencoolen MRT station and the Downtown Line are also located close by Westwood Residences.
In the middle of the city there are many entertainment and dining options for residents. There is the Plaza Singapura, The Canthay, PoMo, and Wilkie Edge just to name a few local establishments.

Koh Brothers Westwood Avenue EC

Mount Sophia is also near the historic district of Singapore. This area is known as the Bras Basah. There are many historic activities such has the Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, the National Design Centre, and the Peranakan Museum.
Each year there is an event held in Singapore called the Singapore Night Festival. Local artists get to share their talent through dance, music, and have the opportunity to put their original artwork on display. People who visit this event can also expect a number of performances and visual treats from the locals.
Mount Sophia is also near Westwood Residences Koh Brothers and in close proximity to the Singapore Management University campus. Close by there is also the Management Development Institute of Singapore, Dhoby Ghaunt MacDonald House, LaSalle College of Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine arts. A person living in this area is also close to the Kaplan city campus which is located at Wilkie Edge.

New Westwood Ave EC Heeton Homes

There are also some good schools for the primary and secondary students. St. Margaret’s Primary School is great as well as Stamford Primary School, Anglo- Chinese School, Raffles Girls Secondary School, and for creative students the School of the Arts.
Mount Sophia is also close to Emily Hill. This hill has many private communities, a fancy hotel, the arts venue, as well as a number of entertainment options.

Westwood Residences
